Twelve farms, one handshake
We are not a marketplace and we are not a reseller. We buy whole harvests from growers we know by name, at a price agreed before anything is planted.
It started because nobody would buy Balbir’s cauliflower
In 2016 Balbir Singh converted four acres outside Verka to organic. Two seasons later he had the certificate, the yields and no buyers — the mandi paid him the same rate as the sprayed crop next door, so the extra cost came straight out of his margin.
We started Sona Organics to solve exactly that: buy the whole harvest, pay a premium fixed in advance, and sell it direct to households who care what is in their food. No auction, no middle layer.
Nine years on, eleven more farms have joined on the same terms, and roughly 1,200 families in Amritsar get a crate from us every week.
Four rules we don’t bend
Price agreed first
Every farm signs a rate before sowing. If the market crashes, we still pay it.
Nothing sprayed
No synthetic pesticide, herbicide or growth regulator touches anything we sell.
Harvest to order
We cut what has been bought. Nothing enters cold storage, because there is no cold storage.
Crates come back
We collect and reuse every crate. In 2025 that avoided roughly 41,000 cardboard boxes.
How we got here
Slow, deliberately. We have turned down every offer to stock produce we cannot trace back to a specific field.
One farm, forty families
Balbir’s four acres in Verka, sold door to door from the back of a Bolero every Saturday.
NPOP group certification
Five farms certified together, cutting the per-farm cost by roughly 70% and making conversion viable for smallholders.
The Ranjit Avenue depot
A proper pack house with a same-day route across the city, and the first weekly subscription boxes.
Twelve farms, 1,200 households
Roughly 6.5 tonnes of produce a week, and a waiting list for farms wanting to join the group certificate.
